Protect your investment. These care guides are written specifically for the materials 4 Season's Outdoors installs — so you know exactly how to maintain your outdoor kitchen for years of use.
Outdoor granite faces UV exposure, Texas heat, rain, and heavy cooking use. Follow this guide to keep your countertops sealed, stain-free, and looking sharp for 20+ years.
Always test any treatment on a small, inconspicuous area first. If in doubt, contact 4SO before attempting removal.
Apply a paste of baking soda and water (or acetone for stubborn stains). Cover with plastic wrap, tape edges, let sit 24 hours. Remove and rinse. Repeat if needed.
Wipe immediately. If dried, use a plastic scraper to lift residue, then clean with warm soapy water. Never use acidic cleaners — they will etch the stone.
Blot (don't wipe) immediately. Apply hydrogen peroxide (3%) with a few drops of ammonia-free dish soap. Let sit 5 minutes, rinse, and dry. Reseal after treatment.
Use a commercial rust remover specifically formulated for natural stone. Do NOT use standard rust removers — they contain acids that will etch granite. Contact 4SO if the stain is deep.
Mix 1 part hydrogen peroxide with 2 parts water. Apply with a soft cloth, let sit 10 minutes, scrub gently, rinse thoroughly. Ensure the surface dries completely.
Use a stone-safe calcium/lime remover. Avoid citric acid or vinegar. For mild deposits, a paste of baking soda and water applied gently can help. Reseal after treatment.
Wipe with warm water and mild dish soap. For heavy soot, use a stone-safe degreaser. Rinse and dry completely. Check sealer integrity after cleaning.
Outdoor granite should be sealed every 6–12 months. Here's the exact process:
Wash the entire surface with warm water and mild dish soap. Remove all grease, food residue, and debris. Rinse completely.
Allow the countertop to dry for a minimum of 24 hours. Sealer applied to damp stone will not penetrate properly and will peel.
Pour a small amount of penetrating sealer onto a lint-free cloth. Work in 2×2 ft sections, applying in a circular motion. Do not let it pool.
Wipe off excess sealer before it dries (within 3–5 minutes). Buff with a clean dry cloth. Allow 24–48 hours cure time before use.
Recommended Sealers for Outdoor Granite
Use a penetrating (impregnating) sealer rated for outdoor use. Trusted brands include Granite Gold Sealer, Miracle Sealants 511 Impregnator, and Tenax Proseal. Avoid wax-based or topical sealers — they sit on the surface and peel in outdoor conditions.
